Overview:

In mid-May 1940, the German breakthrough on the Meuse forced the French command to urgently erect a fort south of the river to counter an overflow from the east of the Maginot Line. Alas, the Panzers rushed towards the west and the coast. . .However, south-east of Sedan, the struggle raged around Stonne, held by the 3rd Motorized Infantry Division. To their right, the 6th Colonial Infantry Division took up position in a wooded area. The Senegalese tirailleurs buried themselves in hastily organized strongpoints. On the 17th, the Germans launched a violent attack and infiltrated the lines of the 6th RICMS, encircling three support points.
