Overview:
Field Marshal Slim's attack philosophy of "Speed, Surprise, Punch" now brought the XIVth Army along the banks of the Irrawaddy. Days earlier crossings had been succeeded farther north and now the 7th Division began their crossing near Pakokku. As night turned to dawn, the defenders now awoke to the danger and poured a deadly fire on the exposed boats, some of which were now foundering in the river's current. Artillery fire, then direct tank fire support enabled a small bridgehead to be created as the second wave of the crossing commenced.Attacker: British (2nd South Lancashire Regiment and 33rd Infantry Brigade with 255th Indian Tank Brigade)
