Overview:
After a short period of reorganization and absorbing replacements. 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division (the "Blue and Gray") passed through 3rd Battalion to continue the Division attack toward St. Lô, now only two miles away. Having fought to exhaustion over the past three days, 2nd and 3rd Battalions were no longer fit to carry on the attack. Lieutenant Bill Kenny's Company C. attacking on the Battalion right flank. faced a series of hedgerows, open ground, and woods to fight through to reach St. Lô. Concerns by Kenny's Battalion commander, Major Glover S. Johns, Jr. about attacking across open ground in broad daylight were breezily rejected by the Regimental Operations Officer, who planned the attack to begin at 0600.Attacker: American (Company C, 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division with 747th Tank Battalion)
