Overview:
The Germans attacked westward from Mortain in two columns. The north column featuring Kampfgruppe Schake forced the 39th Infantry Cannon Company to abandon its 105mm howitzers in Le Mesnil-Tôve, bypassed Cherence le Roussel and halted in Le Mesnil-Adelée, a small village four miles deep in American territory, where it set up in defense.
