Overview:

On Thanksgiving Day 1944, 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. under the command of Colonel Orin "Hard Rock" Haugen. began their push into the jungles and mountains of Leyte. The regiment faced incredibly harsh conditions. including monsoon rains, hunger, and relentless Japanese resistance. The soldiers endured these challenges with ren1arkable resilience, often going days without resupply and resorting to eating anything they could find. One of the most notable engagements was the battle for Hard Rock Hill. The 511th PIR fought fiercely to capture this strategic position, which lay athwart the main Japanese supply route from Ormoc on the west coast to Dulag and Tacloban on the east. Lieutenant General Sosaku Suzuki of the 35th Army wanted his supply line back.

2025-11-10(A) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd Japanese winJapanese came from all sides to pin down the Americans and eventually cut some route paths forcing the broken units to be eliminated, which is what swung the game into the Japanese favor.
