Overview:

The Japanese U-Go offensive was barely two weeks old and already behind schedule. Task Force Yamamoto advanced northwards through the Kawbaw valley. After sweeping aside opposition in Witok, General Tsunoru Yamamoto split his task force into two detachments. The Ito Unit was sent northwest to Sibong aiming to block the road to Imphal trapping the 20th Indian Division in Moreh. Yamamoto's second force, the Mitsui Detachment, proceeded northeast towards Tamu to destroy enemy forces in the vicinity of Moreh. Meanwhile, the Japanese 15th Army ordered Yoshioka Battalion to attack enemy forces at Moreh from the rear.
Attacker: Japanese (Yoshioka Battalion with Mitsui Detatchment)
Defender: Commonwealth (Indian) (9th Battalion, 12th Frontier Force Regiment, 80th Indian Infantry Brigade, 20th Indian Infantry Division with A Troop, 3rd Carabiniers)

2026-07-30(D) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger Japanese win4.62 hrsAt first sight the Japanese task looks tough: capturing every building location (32 of them I think) in the Allied setup area. However, the Allied setup instructions force a widely dispersed setup, and the Japanese were able to sweep across the board with very little resistance, picking off isolated Allied units one at a time. I didn’t have a lot of dice luck, and even the two Allied tanks failed to shift the balance; one of them succumbing to a lucky shot whilst the Japanese lost none of their tanks. In retrospect I could have played it better, but it was still an enjoyable scenario.
2026-07-19(D) Jeffrey Laird vs Steve Newman & Jim Risher Japanese winSteve and Jim each played 1 of the 2 Japanese detachments against Jeff's British Indians.
We saw someone else on VASL playing the same scenario, we took a peek, it seems like they were counting all the huts as VC buildings, but we didn't include huts, which left 11 building locations as Victory locations.

Fun and exciting play, Jeff first malf'd and then X'd both 75MM guns on the Lee tanks, the VC locations fell slowly, it was anybody's game until Turn 7 (last turn).

Japanese sniper broke a squad in 2aH5 who was supporting the defense of 2aI8. One remaining 4-4-7 defending 2aI8 survived a 1MC, but was encircled by advancing fire, and was ambushed and eliminated in CC on the last turn of the game.
2026-07-18(D) Simon Staniforth vs MB Japanese winLost too many units from the Board 5b force to aggressive Japanese play as I tried to have them fallback into the Board 2a village. The Lees when they came on certainly helped, quickly taking out all the Ha-Gos, but not enough Commonwealth infantry remaining to prevent the Japanese win
