Overview:

The heavily defended gun battery at Merville had been attacked by paratroops, but one gun was still firing and, in the confusion, two groups of Number 3 Commando were sent to finish the job. 45 (RM) Commando was reassigned to secure the coastal town of Franceville-Plage. While advancing across open ground to their objective, the much-reduced force came under intense mortar and sniper fire. Worse, its HQ was ambushed leaving only three officers unwounded. Following a short naval bombardment, two troops entered the main street of the town. . .

2021-02-27(D) Dan Best vs Dave Mareske British win
2021-02-27(A) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best British winRecommend using the German balance. The Brits put up a screening force on the east while making a grab for all the buildings and eliminating the Pillbox and western trenches. The German reinforcements met with stiff fire and only half of their troops made it on, and some of those were broken. British morale won the day and were extra effective in Close Combat.
2021-02-15(A) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne Duval British win

(VASL Log)
Used German balance. Came down to very last British Turn with Germans hemmed in with two HMGs reassembled in last Trench held. It was uncertain if the British would survive the final push to surround the final trench, but with luck the great FP unleashed at PB in AFPh was enough to settle the matter without resorting to CC. Submitted last 4 Turns we played on Vassal.
2021-02-15(D) Dwayne Duval vs Kevin Duval British winGerman morale was high. The defense felt solid by turn 8. Then they were overwhelmed. Came down to the wire.
2018-08-26(A) Andy Beaton vs Jonathan Kay British winBritish made a fast grab for the easternmost MG nest and set up a screen to delay the German reinforcements while the other machinegun nests and the pillbox were mopped up. Ther Germans couldn't break through the line before the original force had been taken out of good order or killed, and there were an abundance of buildings in the backfield for the British to capture. Definitely seems pro-British, but I suspect the balance may be too strong - an earlier arrival by the Germans could prevent the east MG post from ever falling.
