Overview:

After Lt. Col. Goettge's small reconnaissance patrol was wiped out near Matanikau on August 12, General Vandefrift ordered a strike against the Japanese concentration in the area. Given the overriding need to protect Henderson Field, it was a week before the Marines felt they could spare three companies of the 5th Marines for Vandergrift's clearing operation.
Attacker: American (USMC) (B Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines/L Company. 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines)
Defender: Japanese (Matanikau Outpost/Matanikau Garrison)

2024-12-06(A) Mark Thompson vs John Gorkowski American (USMC) winAlbany 2024-Round 4. An absolute bar-room brawl mass-casualty event with the USMC getting just what they needed CVP-wise to win. A total barn-burner with a fantastic opponents. A blast.
2024-03-09(D) S. Slunt vs Mark Thompson Japanese winThe Japanese set up in the Jungle spread out with 2 hexes between any two units
The Americans came in split to attack two of the Japanese groups. The Japanese move up and away or down and away I was at the start of the American turn 3 that the Americans realized my plan was to make them come to me. At the start of Japanese turn 5 that the Americans realize they could not get the 16 points they needed
2024-02-25(A) Johan Vrijdaghs vs Heyman Japanese win
2024-01-08(D) Eric Topp vs Peter Dunn Japanese winGame decided by last CC. Peter eliminated my Japanese squad to get the VP total but I then rolled snakes to kill one of his squads - Japanese win!
2023-08-06(D) Vic Lauterbach vs JM American (USMC) winI drew the Japanese and set up to force HtH CC as often as possible. I hoped that mutual elimination in CC where Jim had more MMC would hurt the USMC more than my defenders. CC loses were about even though. This one was close until the end, but USMC firepower won the day. The last hut fell in GT6, and a final weak counterattack failed to dislodge the Marines. Overall, more fun than most scenarios where the Japanese must defend. Jim: Pressure from three sides was the key. The Marines that crossed the river forced the outnumbered Japanese to split up their fire which they can't afford. Tough for the Japanese to win without really good dice.
VASL setup note: The OC1 and OC2 overlays go on 40K10/K9 and 40K2/K1, respectively.
We added overlay X29 on 40N7 and O8 per SSR 2.
