Overview:

As part of the Third Army’s encirclement of Metz, Combat Command B of the 10th Armored Division was ordered to strike east towards the Saar River to secure the Army’s flank. Fearing that this was the main attack to roll up the Saar region, the Germans took advantage of the Americans’ slow advance and launched a quick counterattack. . .
Attacker: German (1 Abteilung, 21st Panzer Division and 25th Panzergrenadier Division)

2022-11-28(A) David Garvin vs Nick Faryna German win
2021-07-25(D) Stefan Fiedler vs Jimmy Engren American win

(VASL Log)
American had a upfront defense with two ADVs hulldown on either flank on the hills, in reverse and CE. The 60mm mortar far back on the central 2 level hill.

The German has to take his time I think by moving in AFVs and 81mm mortar to provide smoke cover for T2 infantry push. The Panther should also be very aggressive.

2020-10-28(D) Tim Wiegmann vs Mike Grogan American win

(VASL Log)
The Germans concentrated their attack in the North, and quickly advanced up to hexrow 2 with minimal casualties. On turn 3, the American AFVs managed to destroy both Panzer IVs, and the Germans surrendered the game. It seems that cautious deployment of the armoured forces is key in this scenario, as a hit on any vehicle (other than the Panther) has a high TK chance even in front aspect. Two important German shots were spoiled by tricky LOS, which gave the Shermans the opportunity to deliver the killing blows.
2020-09-08(D) Andy Bagley vs Gordon Jupp German winWell played by Gordon, who delayed the entry of some units to prevent me shifting all my forces to the focus of his attack. My initial defence line in the woods fell back to the hill as planned, but it wasn't enough and I conceded on the last turn. We both missed a couple of key LOSs, one of which cost me a Sherman on turn 1, but in the end I couldn't stop him forcing his way onto the north side of board 18 - once APCR runs out, the Americans have nothing to stop that Panther if if keeps its front facing them. Very good scenario though.
2020-09-08(A) Gordon Jupp vs Andy Bagley German winI went for a cautious advance down the right to try to keep out of LOS of the US tanks until later in the game (didn't want to hit CVP cap) It worked out, albeit I made a couple of silly mistakes and lost a leader to a MMG shot and my 9-2 wounded and ELR to another - on T6 I went for it and the Panther confronted the 76L Sherman and burnt it...on T7 the remainder of the forces moved onto B44 and the US weren't strong enough at this stage to prevent them...Interesting :)
