Overview:

In order to interdict the Chinese supply lines, the Japanese Canton Army wished to take control of French Indochina, which had been left isolated and without direction by the defeat of France in June of 1940. Japanese troops attacked border posts from the north and attempted to disarm French garrisons. On September 23, at Na Cham, a Japanese column tried to break through to Colonial Road 4. With no precise orders from his superiors, the local commander decided not to give in and to interdict the movement. The next day, a strong Japanese attack was beaten back with heavy losses to the attackers. That night, a platoon led by Lt. Seguin left the Na Cham fort and crossed CR 4 to establish itself on the rocky outcrop of Ban-Tich, in anticipation of a Japanese attack the next day.
Attacker: Japanese (5th Infantry Division, Army of Canton)

2020-04-23(A) Shane Pask vs French winSecond playing. First one started so badly for Japs conceded turn 2. Second game did not fair much better. Initially thought the hill fort was unobtainable so went for clearing the valley road. French mortars mangled the valley troops before running out of ammo turn 2. Made some progress towards the fort with plentiful mtr smoke until the rain started. Rain made climbing the hill difficult but finally reached the summit. A mtr ch got me into one building and a dc hero breached the second. However Lt Lindeau and his men were too strong and defeated the final CC to hold the fort. In the valley French had 5 squads, a MMG & 8-0 leader on the road.

2014-11-10(D) Michael Rodgers vs Jean-Pierre Raymond Japanese winJean-Pierre Raymond and I played three turns of J69 THE ARMY AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD. I had the French and conceded. My initial setup was flawed because I thought the Japanese needed both VC rather than either VC. Although I was able to react to that error, at the end of turn 3, the French 60 was gone, 1 MMG was gone, 1 MMG was malfed and the 81 crew had just been whacked by the sniper. As well, we had heavy rain, so the Japanese were making decent progress along the road.
2014-01-31(A) mark watson vs Ken Dunn French winFrench MTR ground all the life out of the Japanese, who foolish proceeded to break all of their guns and lose all of their close combat. Still a fun scenario and an interesting topic.
2009-09-29(A) Ian Willey vs Duane Hallford Japanese winSuprised ROAR has this as almost equal (with slight French advantage) as I felt it was hard for the Jap to loose and beleive me it seemed like I tried. Fun with me switching tactics to keep the win possible
