Overview:
German leadership planned Operation Schwarz to encircle and destroy the Main Operation Group of NOVJ in the area of northeast Montenegro and southeast Herzegovina. The objective of SS-Gebirgs Division “Prinz Eugen” was in the Savnik area, with its right flank advancing to the north through Niksic. The 2nd SS-Regiment's II-Battalion, under Sturmbannfuhrer Dietsche, attacked east of the Kinsic-Savnik road. Two days of fighting followed in the rocky, mountainous terrain.
