Overview:

In the first amphibious assault since Gallipoli, Spanish troops under Colonel Franco, the future dictator of Spain, landed at Alhucemas Bay. Unfortunately the barges carrying the FT17 tanks hit shoals and had to return. The Spanish troops landed and set up defensive positions and were soon joined by the tanks. Franco now faced the problem of expanding the beachhead before the onset of winter. His forces, including the under-trained tankers, prepared to drive the Rif forces off the hills surrounding the beachhead.

2021-12-29(D) Jobbo Fett vs superemma Spanish winA decent start for the RIF forces slowly chipped away by poor dice rolls. There's something to be said about how restrictive the scenario is in the defender's setup, mixed with the, generally, good terrain that benefits the attacker and allows them to close in. The large amount of support weapons the Spanish bring to the battle could do with one HMG less, perhaps a pair of squads removed, and giving the RIF forces 1st lines only, to start with.

The tanks would've had a larger impact, but two were immobilized before the half-way point, and some unbelievable IFT rolls on -4 DRMs netting 0 effect on 3+ occasions really hurt the defender's ability to slow down the attack. Cut the scenario by two turns, as well as the other modifications, and there could be something here.
