Overview:
In a n attempt to slow down the Nationalist advances further north, the Republicans launched diversionary offensives in Aragon to threaten the regional capital of Saragossa. They planned multiple thrusts on over a hundred kilometer front, in order to divide any Nationalist counter-attack. The most difficult spot along the southern thrust was at the town of Belchite, where over 7,000 defenders, mostly Falangist, were surrounded. The harsh siege was equaled only by the vigorous defense -- an all around, island of resistance.Attacker: Republican (105th Division, Abraham Lincoln Bn, XVth International Bde)
