Overview:
The German 10th Army planned to advance on both sides of the Pilica River to prevent the Poles from concentrating forces, and to cut off withdrawal paths of units to the west of Warsaw. Panzer Division 1 was ordered to attack towards Piotrków on the morning of 5 September, where two battalions of the Polish 19th Infantry Division had quickly set up defensive positions. The Germans attacked but ran into tough pockets of resistance. They attempted to outflank the defenders but were attacked by the 2nd Light Tank Battalion. While the infantry fought, a large tank vs. tank battle ensued.Attacker: German (Panzer Division 1)
