Overview:
As part of the invasion to capture the southern Marianas Islands, the 2nd Marine Division landed on the southwest coast of Saipan on 15 June. Lt. Gen. Yoshitsugu Saito chose not to expose the bulk of his troops to an American shoreline bombardment, but instead deployed the 43rd Infantry Division and 9th Tank Regiment inland where they could counterattack the Marine beachhead as it formed. The Marines landed under fire but quickly pushed off the beach. Saito took advantage of the relatively level and open terrain to launch a combined-arms attack, headed by Colonel Takashi Goto's 9th Tank Regiment, to smash the Marine position before the Americans could bring their forces to bear against him.Attacker: Japanese (136th Infantry Regiment, 43rd Infantry Company and 4th Company, 9th Tank Regiment)
Defender: American (USMC) (Companies, A & G, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division w/Company Reserve)

2024-02-02 | (D) Louis Langdeau | vs | Wes G | American (USMC) win | First time playing PTO. I deployed a bit too far forward, and Wes was a bit too aggressive with Banzai's. Both of us had some awful luck with malfing weapons, but since Wes needed his tanks way more than I needed my MGs, it was harder on him. After his T4 we realized he didn't have enough squads to make a chance of it, and my reinforcements were about to come on. All in all, an okay scenario that I'd be willing to replay.
2023-12-10 | (A) Klara Kundzicz | vs | Benjamin Steinberg | American (USMC) win (VASL Log) | I lost most of my units because of my stupid Banzai choices and i also lost my tank. I conceded after that because i didnt have enough squad equivelants to fill out the VC. Here is a save file with the aftermath, all information counters were removed for a better view of the battlefield.
2023-06-24 | (D) Ilyas Jalisi | vs | Anonymous | American (USMC) win | It was a hard fought scenario with the Japanese hounding the USMC troops as they attempted to fight a retiring delaying action whilst waiting for the turn 4 reinforcements. A few good defensive fire and close combat roles on the part of the USMC player however managed to swing the game in their favour and on turn 4 after US reinforcements arrived and a Japanese tank was lost to a bazooka the Japanese player conceded.
2022-12-13 | (A) Jack Wilson | vs | Dmitry Klyuykov | Japanese win | Great game. I think my first win with the SK4 Japanese. Dmitry's defense was flawless, IMO. He positioned his BAZ teams so as to deny any approach of my woefully under gunned and under armored tanks. He set up a FS/HMG/9-2 Ldr in a central building that commanded almost all approaches to the VC building. Fortunately for me, I was rolling low like a madman, and he had some untimely high rolls, especially on the last turn when none of his BAZ teams could score a hit. Great fun. ROAR has this as 50-50 balance. But we both agreed it tilts toward the Japanese.
2022-12-13 | (D) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Jack Wilson | Japanese win (VASL Log) | Great scenario, as Japanese had 6.5 (of 6 needed) squads after the last turn of the game. Very balanced and very tense. Unfortunately my defense plan didn't work, little bit of luck could save the day, but not this time. Thank you for playing, Jack!
2022-09-18 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Slava Zipunov | Japanese win (VASL Log) | Japanese were tired down quite a bit during the initial maneuver phase of the battle: 8 of 12 squad became HS or striped to the Turn 3. On the Turn 3 Japanese shouted Banzai and assaulted isolated Marine strongpoint with 9-2 leader. After causing some casualties, Marine stack broke during the FPF, so Japanese were able to consolidate some ground in the victory area. Marine reinforcement had to assault solid positions, so they withdrawn to fight another day.
2022-03-12 | (D) Pascal Boileau | vs | Simon Goudissard | American (USMC) win | A very nice scenario. The Japanese were unstoppable and placed in position to win at the end of turn 4. The American reinforcements were welcome and allowed a furious counter-attack that reverse the issue of the game in the end.

2021-10-30 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Fedor Melnikov | Japanese win
2020-12-14 | (D) Eric Topp | vs | Jim Bert | American (USMC) win | I set up my Marines well back from the starting line. In previous games, I have found that Marines on the hill can be eliminated for failure to rout by the Japanese tanks. The Japanese tanks moved up, being careful not to get within the dangerous 4 hex range of the BAZ. The Japanese MTR fired Smoke providing cover for the Japanese infantry crossing open ground. The Marines weren't getting much ROF from their MMG and the Japanese were mostly passing their MC. By the end of Japanese turn 6, both tanks were inside the "perimeter" along with five squads, a HS and crew. Then came the US counterattack. Jim was careful to reduce the risk of losing his valuable tanks from the BAZ by keeping them in Motion. Despite this, a Critical Hit knocked one out anyway. The other US fire attacks were mostly ineffective so it all came down to the final CC. Despite a Japanese Ambush, the US prevailed and wiped out enough Japanese infantry units to win.
2020-11-27 | (A) Mark Dennehy | vs | Jim Bert | Japanese win | Americans mostly held fire as the Japanese approached until the Japanese declared Banzai in Turn 5 on the northern building hexes, all occupied by American Marine squads plus one MMG. Americans cowered several squads plus some poor FP attacks and good Japanese morale checks allowed the Japanese to have multiple squads in each building hex. The Americans conceded.
2020-10-04 | (D) Mark Dennehy | vs | Eric Topp | Japanese win
2020-10-04 | (A) Eric Topp | vs | Mark Dennehy | Japanese win | A Japanese Banzai charge through the kunai chilled the hearts of the US defenders (three cowers in a row). The Japanese were able to grab the J5 and H6 buildings at a minimal cost in lives. The CHI-HA tanks snuck into H5 and I6 then stayed in Motion. The Marines could not knock them out in CC and the game was over.
2020-08-08 | (A) Vilis Pavulans | vs | Matias Dahlbäck | Japanese win | Matias as usual rolled a large number of well placed boxcars and 11s and a few 10s and 9s as well. The americans were almost wiped out, with both japanese AFVs and a few squads in the village by turn 4 and we called it a day.
2020-08-08 | (D) Matias Dahlbäck | vs | Vilis Pavulans | Japanese win | The horror, the horror. When it was time for the reinforcements to come in on turn four the Japanese had already overrun the village and there was only one American squad left standing in there. The rest had succumbed to FtR and HtH CC. A humiliating defeat.
2020-07-28 | (A) M T | vs | N.N. | Japanese win | The Japanese got in a phenomenal PFPh with their MMG, which coupled with an armored breakthrough resulted in a bunch of FtR's, collapsing the American firing line in the south. USMC player called it after turn 3. Good game!
2020-06-01 | (D) Kevin Sanders | vs | Rob Brown | American (USMC) win | Rough game for the Japanese. Lost 9-1 leader to long range fire from MMG. 1 Baz squad held out against tons of fire to stall the Japanese advance. Lost a tank and called it...rough bit it is still a fun scenario..USMC just got very lucky this time.
2020-05-09 | (D) Kevin Sanders | vs | Eric Topp | American (USMC) win | US win (based on SK rules) - US needed to knock out both Japanese tanks. 1 Baz scored clean kill. Other Baz hit, rolled Boxcars and got an SK kill (no dud in SK)....US marginal win.
2020-05-09 | (A) Eric Topp | vs | Kevin Sanders | Japanese win | Marines had to knock out both Japanese tanks to win. BAZ hit but then Dud!
2020-04-13 | (A) Derek Dunn | vs | Bruce Carson | Japanese win | More of an infantry scenario regardless of the two Japanese tanks. Used troops on the hill to engage the Americans while swing an attack from the North into the town. Brought the tanks into the town at the end to deny routes and obtain the VC.
2020-03-29 | (A) John Smith | vs | Scott | American (USMC) win | An utterly failed banzai charge halfway through the game decided this one. The elite USMC were able to mow down an entire banzai charge (5 squads) plus the 9-1 leader coming off the hill towards the village. The Japanese armor proved ineffective, and the equipment subpar, experiencing something like 3 broken MGs and a broken MA. The Japanese were never able to recover and it was not a good day for the Empire of the Rising Sun.
2020-03-28 | (D) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Fedor Grachev | American (USMC) win
2020-03-27 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Igor Luckyanov | Japanese win
2020-03-13 | (A) Kermit Mullins | vs | Scott Waites | American (USMC) win | My Japanese got hammered on the southern flank, but managed to get to the village on the northern route. The US reinforcements arrived to turn a Melee against me and that ended the game with a US win.
2020-02-20 | (A) Martí Cabré | vs | Solo | Japanese win | An exciting scenario with many ASL features, including infantry, guns and tanks. Japs have to press hard to break the American line, getting to the village is easy but reaching the victory hexes can be daunting if the Americans are not broken. The reinforcements arrive just in time to stop the Japanese, which have to save the armor for the last rush, but beware of the bazookas! A very good scenario from this pack.
2019-09-22 | (A) O Ramaille | vs | Japanese win | Two Banzai charges hit the USMC defense hard. The Japanese armor succeeded in avoiding the bazookas and entered the town. The USMC reinforcement was not sufficient to push the Japanese back. Even close combat got no effect. A clear Japanese victory.
2019-07-20 | (A) Dave Mareske | vs | Wayne Spriggs | Japanese win
2019-06-15 | (A) Dan Best | vs | Greg Sackett | Japanese win
2019-05-30 | (D) David Stoffey | vs | Eric Duckworth | American (USMC) win | Third play of this scenario. Really fun design, but the Americans have won each time. I think the scenario needs the Japanese balance. |
