Overview:

On 7 June, the Germans broke through Sevastopol's outer defensive ring. Three days later, Mekenziyevy Mountain train station and a nearby road junction known as the Forsthaus (Forester's House) were captured. The Russian 79th Naval Infantry Brigade was ordered to counterattack and wrest back control of the Forsthaus. The black-clad sailors, well armed with modern semi-automatic rifles, sub-machine and light machine-guns, advanced confidently towards the German outpost line.

2024-06-09(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM Russian winThis familiar 'trade space for time' clash has interesting aspects but isn't exciting enough to rate above average. I drew the attacking Soviets who have two ATRs to stop a StuG, but I never took a shot at it! My 8-ML Soviets refused to break while Jim's force broke and melted away. I pushed up both flanks, got 8 squad equivalents (twice the requirement) into hexrow I fairly easily and ended with 15 CVP to 9. Jim: Early high MC DRs and a few Casualty MCs doomed my defense. The Stuka obliterated a 328 but failed its other TC. This isn't a bad scenario. My plan was too conservative. I should have been aggressive with the StuG. Note: Jim wanted to divide the German reinforcements between the north and south edges. Nothing on the card or in A2.5 says all reinforcements must enter together, so we allowed it. The two 467s who entered at I1 were broken by a swarm of 628s and had to rout off map. The south group stopped all but one 458 from reaching hexrow I.
