Overview:

The Japanese had pushed the British out of Burma in mid-1942. There had been several attempts by the British to retake their lost territory with little success. The long-awaited conquest of India by the Japanese began when the Japanese III/58 Regiment crossed the Chindwin River on the night of March 15th intent on moving towards their objective of Kohima. A lone Indian Parachute Company was occupying a position along their advance. C Company, 152 Parachute Battalion, commanded by Major John Fuller had recently taken over the positions from the 4/5 Mahrattas which belonged to the 23rd Indian Division. The initial attack on the position was made by an advanced guard but was quickly supported by growing numbers of Japanese. Major Fuller had requested several relief columns. Elements of the 58th Regiment had surrounded his position however and were holding off all attempts of relief.
Attacker: Japanese (II+III Battalions, 58th Regiment, 31st Division)
