Overview:
The lush, rolling fields of Normandy, bordered by dense bocage and small hamlets, had become a crucible of fierce combat following the Allied landings of D-Day. Among the troops pushing inland was the 49th (West Riding) Division, known as the "Polar Bears," tasked with advancing through formidable German defenses. The 6th Battalion, Duke od Wellington's Regiment (The Dukes), part of the 147th Brigade, had been engaged in continuous skirmishes since their arrival. Their objective was the strategic area around Tilly-sur-Seulles, a critical point for controlling the movement of forces in the region. Intelligence indicated that the Germans had heavily fortified the area, transforming farmhouses, hedgerows, and small wooded areas into formidable defensive positions.Attacker: British (6th Battalion, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, 49th (West Riding) Division)
Defender: German (SS) (III./SS-Panzergrenadierregiment 26, 12.SS-Panzerdivision Hitlerjugend)
