Overview:
As the main attack towards the Bastion was gaining ground, the 22nd Reconnaissance Battalion attacked out of the hills north of Maxim Gorki I. Its aim was to increase pressure on the Red Army forces defending the fortified heights. Weakened by weeks of bombardment, the 161st Rifle Regiment was surprised and unable to mount as effective defense. Quickly swept aside by the fast-moving recon troops, the survivors withdrew into the village of Lyubimovka. Soon, the beleaguered forces would have to stand on its own.Attacker: German (132nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 132nd Infantry Division)
