Shortly after the attack on Denmark and Norway, the Swedish government prohibited public meetings and recruitment organizations for Swedish volunteers to Norway. Maybe some 300 Swedes went to Norway, some of them in the Swedish uniforms with Finnish emblem they had used as volunteers for Finland against the Soviet Union attack, and maybe half of them got into fights with Germans. The Swede Gösta Benckert led a company of at the most 219 men, mostly Norwegians who had fought in Finland and some 20 Swedes. On 16 April, they defended Kongsvinger fort for about a day and night, while two German batallions were stopped from advancing. When Benckert tried to find out who of his men later had fired at a Norwegian ambulance, several of the Swedes went back to Sweden. When he learned that the Allies left the south of Norway, he kept 20 men and fought guerilla war until early June 1940 when the fighting in northern Norway also ended.
Good scenario with lots of room for maneuver. Breaking my 9-2 and CRing MMG squad on GT1 was unfortunate. Couldn't get enough FP to stop a last turn German rush on the the L3 hexes

All of the Swedes were placed along the ridge line with Norwegian MMG squad HIP covering the exit zone. Swedes nicely held up the German advance until the German mortar lobbed a round into the trench, ELRing the 9-2 and breaking both squads with the MMG.
However, exiting was not going to happen so all remaining Germans charged up the hill. 2 squads reached the trenches on turn 5 but the 84 cleared both out with two hits (one with an intensive fire hit vs trenches in heavy snowfall). However, there was one squad that remained out of sight and was able to advance into a trench on the final turn for the win. (Another squad also survived to advance in)

I think Rob felt guilty for beating me last week...he still thinks it was dice.
I think it was a combination of his excellent defence and my too aggressive attack.
Rob suggested we give this one another go. His defence and my plan of attack were
unchanged. This time, I was much more cautious, and ended up winning in my last MPh.
It seems to me there are not a lot of options for either side. That's not necessarily a bad thing,
but it is good to keep in mind.
Rob rates this one a bit higher than I do, perhaps because I have such a poor taste in my mouth
from the debacle that was the first play on 5 May.

Once again, Rob had a stellar defence and shredded my German attack.
We misplayed an HIP rule. Rob felt very badly for that; he shouldn't. His
defence was excellent and the minor mistake was not enough of a reason
for my loss.
We will play this again, to see if I can do better.

Good scenario, enjoyed it, but the dice did for me. First the falling snow cleared early, which helped me a bit but probably helped the Germans more. Then, although my sniper got his 37L AT Gun crew, the German 81mm mortar kept getting ROF and landed shot after shot into my trench line on the hilltop, whilst in return my ancient artillery piece did nothing. Finally my HIP 9-2 leader, squad + MMG got no result with 6 -2 and 6 -1 shots against a German squad coming round the back of the hill; he then fired back at 4 +1 and broke me! The leading German HS got into a trench on Turn 5, and I just had nothing left to fight back.

Came down to a German Beserker on a trench needing to eliminate the broken squad in Advacing Fire. Nope. Broken routed away leaving. Beserker not in good order so cannot control trench. Swedes/Norwegians win. Good fun.

Close fight, the Allies just couldn't hold the trenches on the left crest. A last desperate charge by the Swedes and their 9-2 leader was stopped by a captured Norwegian MG that I had just repaired 2 turns ago before losing it, so there's a lesson of some kind there.
