2023-10-17(A) nathan wegener vs Wes Vaughn German winSwept along the east edge and with some good shots and smoke reached the south woods line easily in the first turn. Unfortunately the German main line of defense was inside the woods and the French morale couldn't handle the point blank MMG/HMG. Kept melting and falling back. Didn't have enough to push the Germans out. Fun scenario but favors a good defense.

2021-12-14(D) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger German winVery interesting and unusual scenario: not often the defender has to guard a large area of woods.
Things started badly for me as the Germans. I had planned to retreat from the edge of the woods on my turn 1, to escape his OBA and mortar fire but, emboldened by ineffective opening French shots, I prep fired on my turn 1 instead. This proved disastrous as his defensive fire was devastating and my best leader was shot dead by a sniper, So it was a weakened German force that retreated into the woods as the French swept forwards.
We then fought for the woods, with lots of close-range shooting and CCs. The French continued to move forward with ease but took casualties. Several of their units that had been kill stacks also got left behind, so they struggled to take control of all of the woods hexes as they moved through. They did however capture my HMG and set it up to send a fire line straight down the road in hexrow A, where my reinforcements were due.
Then came the turning point: I risked running my reinforcements across the road, the captured HMG fired and rolled a 12! That was pretty much it, as my reinforcements were too strong for the remaining French in the woods, and easily recaptured the hexes I needed to give me victory on the last turn. A very exciting game though, well worth playing.
