Strategically, it was important to protect the iron ore and nickel mines on the northern tundra area where German and Finnish forces had advanced on the Soviet port of Murmansk in 1941 but stopped 50 miles short at the Litsa River and since then the position has remained relatively static. The Germans began to withdraw on two axes after a massive Soviet offensive opened on 7 October. One of these axes moved northwest towards the small Norwegian port town of Kirkenes, along the Finnish-Norwegian border. After some pursuit involving German delaying actions in the harsh terrain devoid of cover, the Soviets had finally pushed the Germans back to the town.
Attacker: Russian (10th Guards Rifle Division and 378th Guards Heavy Self Propelled Artillery Regiment)
Three Russian heroes lead the charge to victory, though the Russians lost both tanks the in infantry overwhelmed the Germans.

The Russians had plenty of time and firepower to overwhelm my defences.
I resigned on turn 5.
I think a more forward defence for the Germans would have helped as the orchards blocked a lot of LOS.
Pleased with my overall play however being annihilated by Martin is always painful.

I denied the russian the possibility to launch the HW and cut to pieces his left wing with sniper and multiple break.Guido keep on attacking but in the end he had no more steam left.

On the face of it the German defenders are not greatly outnumbered by the Russians, but they have a wide front to defend, no obvious defence line, and only wooden buildings. The Russians advanced through the brush on the eastern side of the board, and managed to reach the village with minimal losses - my MMG in the steeple was ineffective. Thereafter I failed to put together any coherent defence, and my forces were picked off piecemeal by the Russians. I managed to get one of the KV1S's in CC, but lost a leader and squad in the process, while his 9-2 leader stacked with a couple of 628's shot up everything in sight. There must be a better way to defend with the Germans, but I don't know what it is.

Took the defense this time and persevered. The RUS elites made it a good game but the Germans had one good Rally phase to rebound their defense. The DC ended exploding denying one victory location forcing the Russians to get both two-hex buildings, which they only got into on Turn 7 and needed to win all their CCs; Defensive Fire pinned one unit which proved to be a definite game winner. Good game that came down to the wire.

Russians came on in two groups with a supporting MMG in the middle. They were able to get to three victory buildings by turn 4, find the DC and secure the win. I am taking the defense in the next game as we flip sides. Lots of open ground for the the Russians to cross.

The Russian entry is a nightmare for the russian player, but even 4 killing german FL were not enough to stop a HW that went trough unscathed, after the russian gain a foothold in a couple of building is game over for the german, that are no match for ML 8 (or 9 in HW) russian troops. Take also note that if the attacker play it well the human waves after turn 3 are not done in the open. Don't be afraid with your AFV they are perfect source of SMOKE for the russians.
I think that this scenario need a very good defense so is for experienced players, but unfortunately if the attacker is experienced and knows his human waves, there is no match. The russians will prevail unless the FLs will deliver an abundant harvest of -/K and KIA.
