Overview:

Determined to present Hitler with a fait accompli in the Balkans, Mussolini launched another ill-advised, ill-planned and ill-informed campaign, this time from Albania into the mountains of Epirus, Pindus, and Macedonia, just in time for winter. The Italian offensive was launched on October 28th in a driving rain that negated any air cover. . .

2025-02-03(D) Anders Björnberg vs David Greek win6 hrsItalians managed to score 9 VP. It was down to the last turn when the Greeks broke the three remaining Italians units that could have scored the last VP:

2023-11-04(A) Klara Kundzicz vs Benjamin Steinberg Greek winWon, a bit boring and i flanked the Italian with the second reinforcements. Kinda interesting but the geoboard is really a weird design and boring overall!
2023-07-31(A) Justin DiSabatino vs Self Greek winA very interesting scenario to play with the Italians having to sprint across the map in order to have any chance of winning. A few squads were left to break up the Greeks as they came on board to slow pursuit, which did help, but the Greek reinforcements came on as early as possible, letting the Greeks set up to net the Italians as they attempted to run across the grain field. The Italians managed only 4 VPs, but using the Italian balance might make the difference.

2023-01-23(D) J. Brach vs Italian winInteresting scenario. This is an exercise in fast infantry movement tactics (under fire!). The ASLSK version of "Fighting Withdrawal".

It seems that it is very hard for the Italians to win against a competent Greek pursuit, but I can see that the scenario would become much more balanced if BOTH balance options are taken: the board shortened to A-Y AND the Greek reinforcements entering no later than turn 3.

2022-11-30(A) Damien Edele vs Chris Greek winWe played this scenario with full ASL rules. This was a fun one, but very hard for the Italian side, especially with the Greek reinforcements.
2022-07-01(A) Alberto Pomar vs David Greek win
2022-06-08(D) Shane Pask vs Greek winAfter playing full ASL for a while, it is hard to remember which rules to ignore when playing SK scenarios. This may affect play balance but in this scenario Italians would be pushed even if there were no Greeks opposing them. It is a long way to go in 6 turns. Even with some poor rolls by the Greeks on the last turn, the Italians could only manage 6 VP.
2022-04-10(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs Italian win
2022-03-04(D) Craig Renier vs Jim Liang Italian winThe Italians left a strong covering force behind to delay the pursuing Greek troops. The delay was effective giving the remainder of the Italians some breathing room to dash across the southern side of the battle field. The Greek reinforcements arrived on Turn 3 and entered on the south side. The Italians were able to break one of the reinforcing MMCs who never rallied the remainder of the scenario. In addition, a timely shot from an Italian MMC broke a pursuing Greek SMC and two MMCs. This provided an opening for exit. On Turn 5 the Italians stormed the breach and survived all Greek DFF exiting enough VPs for a win.

Still waiting for my VASSAL dice to be as ones of my opponents.
2020-08-25(A) Ian Mann vs Ash Tennant Greek win
2020-07-05(D) Craig Renier vs Keith Hiljus Italian winGreeks attempted opening move into 2 residual which ended up being devastating. The Greek flanking units set up an effective block, but the rest of the Greek force could not catch up giving the Italians enough space to exit on Turn 5.
2020-05-20(A) Vilis Pavulans vs Benjamin Steinberg Greek winVery tough scenario for the Italians. Have no idea about how the Italians are supposed to win this.
2020-01-11(D) John Smith vs Scott Italian winA wacky scenario. It's reported as being very unbalanced, so we gave the Italians the balance rule. Victory, IMO, hinges on 2 things. First, the Italians cannot dawdle, the majority of their units have to be moving at all times, never Prep firing, and moving CX every chance. If they don't it's impossible to exit. It's literally a sprint. Leave a few squads in strategic locations as delaying forces.

Second, if the Greek get their reinforcements on turn 2 you might as well just end the scenario. The Italians are easy to break and have horrible ELR. If the Greek don't get reinforcements until turn 4 the Italians can win.

Was still a fun "hide and seek", hot pursuit type of scenario.
2019-12-14(D) Jacob Elmqvist vs Ingemar Gardell Greek win
2019-12-13(A) JP Laurio vs Greek win
2019-11-02(A) Dmitry Klyuykov vs Anton Ivlev Greek winVery poor one-sided scenario design by Brian Youse, like other his scenarios.

2017-10-14(D) Vic Lauterbach vs JM Greek winSK warm up for ASL 90 Pride and Joy. I forgot that in SK building P7-08 has no upper level, so MMG couldn't fire over the grain at Greek squads on the I1-Q1 road! I got one 8-0 and three squads off at CC10, but the Greek flanking force wiped out a 7-0 and two squads at W4, and I needed to exit 3 of those 5 points. This one comes down to when the Greek reinforcements arrive (GT3 in this case).
2017-05-25(D) Louis Langdeau vs Andrew S DrawWoopsies! We completely misread the Greek entry rules. Marking this an incomplete to avoid messing up statistics, since it completely threw off this scenario.
Not really sure what the Italians are supposed to do here, although that could be inexperience showing. We looked at the balance beforehand, and decided to give the Italians their balance adjustment. Honestly though, it didn't seem to matter.

Post game discussions led me to conclude that the issue with this one is two part. One, the map is horrible for this. There's no real way for the Italians to approach the Greek force that doesn't eventually devolve into them charging into a Greek line. The Italians don't have enough troops to try and overwhelm the Greeks, and any shooting match is going to heavily favor the Greeks, especially if the Italians don't fix their gun.

Two, the Greek reinforcements are super punishing. The ability for them to come in to flank, reinforce, or just block the Italians makes this feel massively out of whack.

I feel like this scenario is deeply flawed, but I'm interested to see whether there is an AAR somewhere that would prove me wrong.
2017-05-20(A) Seumas Hoskins vs Dean Greek win
2017-03-29(A) santiago jimenez vs Bud Nicola Greek win
2017-01-21(A) Jeff B vs Bronson Barnhart Greek win2.5 hrsLike many random-die-roll scenarios, this one just feels gamey. If the Greeks don't get their reinforcements until Turn 4 I think it's an Italian victory; if they get them Turn 3 or earlier I don't see how the Italians can win.

2014-02-14(D) Merric Blackman vs Michael Elshaug Greek winVery close game which Michae won by managing to keep one of my squads in melee; I lost by one point!
2013-01-06(D) Michael Focht vs David Garber Italian win
2012-10-20(D) Tyson Arnold vs Ed Brogden Italian winFun scenario, it came right down the end. Barely exited what I needed. I'd play again!
2012-09-29(D) O Ramaille vs Greek winThe Italians let some squads and half-squads behind to slow the advancing Greek army with relativs success. Seven squads and 3 Italian leaders were running in the grain field when flanking elements of the Greek army appeared in the woods in front of them. The Italians split forces in order to bypass greek resistance and go further west. The southern group managed to exit by the west side. However, the Northern group suffer precise machine gun fire and did not exit in time.
Only 3 squads and 2 leaders exited, 8 VPs not enough to achieve victory.

2010-06-30(D) Kermit Mullins vs Scott Waites Greek winItalians got 6 VP off the board edge...but it wasn't enough. Greek reinforcements successfully cut off retreat.
2010-06-15(D) Paul Jaschke vs Greek Italian winI took the Italian balance because the unbalanced results on ROAR. Made it pretty easy b/c opponent didn't get reinforcements. Would definitely play again because it is totally different from any other Starter Kit games I've played.
2010-01-24(D) Paul Messina vs Martin Marquis Greek winSuper sceanrio and one that you must consider playing. Although I lost as the Italian player, I was in control of most of the match until I made an unfortunate move (I moved a stack, which I know better then to do) and a stray 2 FP -1 shot waxed half the stack. My opponent was very skillful as the Greek player and continuously delayed my withdrawl. Great match.

2009-03-25(D) Paul Jaschke vs Rick Greek winReally interesting scenario. It was my first against a very experienced opponent and as a result I lost badly. I would definitely play again and leave some squads behind to cut the Greeks down as they enter the board. I think the Italians could win if they did this.
2009-01-17(D) Steven Pow Jr vs Chris Brown Greek winGot a huge start early, but got really slowed down by his flanking squad, making it impossible for me to get the win.
