Overview:
At 2000 hours, the Germans concentrated a violent mortar barrage on the area around the Faber sawmill. American flares revealed a mass of panzergrenadiers running in the usual battlefield crouch, from the Chemin Des Rahisse towards the sawmill. Panzers stood off behind them, providing fire support. As the German were slowly surrounding the sawmill, its defenders withdrew to the southwest, behind the railway line.
