Overview:

On the evening of 3 November, 3rd Battalion, 112th Regiment established a perimeter defense after capturing Schmidt. Company I defended the northern part and Company L the eastern part of the village. The Germans prepared to counterattack during the night of 3-4 November. Group Wolf (III/1055th and 341st Sturmgeschutz Brigade) would attack along the northern side of the Harscheidt Road, and Group Wilschewatri (I/1055th and 519th Panzerjaeger Battalion) along the southern side. The Germans fired a massive artillery preparation as dawn approached.
