Ill-conceived and ill-prepared, the Italian invasion of Greece quickly turned into a stalemate for the Italians. The initial advance was stopped and the Greeks started counterattacking on the 7th, against Italian soldiers ill-equipped for the weather and mountainous conditions. In Limni, near the Albanian-Greek border, a pocket of Italian resistance was still holding out on the 19th, with Italian soldiers jailing – for some obscure reason – the village schoolgirls.
